Charting Progress: March Momentum Report

Empowering Communities Through Local Action
Introduction

As the year's first quarter drew to a close, Project Sunwave rode into March with full hearts and steady energy. Thanks to the unwavering support of our donors, partners, and local community, March turned out to be one of our most active and inspiring months yet.

Program Highlights

Throughout March, our weekly sessions remained at full speed, with over twenty children attending each session. Every week, we ran five sessions, each lasting two hours, giving our young participants consistent, focused time in and around the water. As school holidays began, we opened our doors even wider, hosting introductory sessions for all local children interested in joining Project Sunwave.

Building Skills and Confidence

March placed a strong emphasis on our swimming modules, the essential foundation for safe and joyful engagement with the ocean. A significant milestone was reached with our Golwe kids (meaning "Waves" in Afrikaans, our advanced main program), who began their surf journeys with guidance from our surf coach — many had never touched a board before joining, and are now paddling out and catching small waves.

Incredible Community Support

Thanks to kind donors from Cape Town, we received donated surfboards and wetsuits, allowing us to properly equip and facilitate the growth of more young surfers regardless of their background.

Challenges and Opportunities

Working with the ocean always brings its own set of challenges — March weather sometimes tested our flexibility, and ensuring enough gear for every child remained a logistical puzzle. Our team adapted with creativity and commitment, and the children's enthusiasm never wavered.

Looking Ahead: April and Beyond

As we move into April, we're building on March's momentum: extending outreach to new participants, deepening the skills of our regulars, and preparing for winter programming.

Conclusion

Every wave caught, every new skill mastered, and every moment of joy in the water is made possible by your support. Together, we're building a generation of confident, capable, and connected young people who will carry these lessons far beyond the shoreline.
