A year long after-school program
When: From April until March
Vonk, meaning Spark in Afrikaans, is a year-long afterschool surf therapy program using water-based activities to promote mental health, resilience, and social-emotional learning (SEL) for youth.

Surf Module: This module uses surfing as a therapeutic tool to build confidence, emotional strength, and a sense of belonging. Through twice-weekly surf lessons, participants develop swimming skills, connect with nature, and experience the joy of movement. Lessons are layered with ocean conservation, surf culture, and personal empowerment to nurture both body and mind.
Wellbeing Module: This module connects physical wellness with emotional balance, using nutrition education and active sessions (including water-based fitness) to reinforce healthy habits. Youth learn how to fuel their bodies, understand their physical needs, and appreciate movement- laying a foundation for lifelong well-being and mental health.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Module: Through interactive, ocean-side activities and group discussions, this module deepens emotional intelligence, communication, and relationship-building skills. Youth explore topics like empathy, self-awareness, and teamwork in a safe environment- supporting their social development and emotional well-being.
Stress Management Module: Designed to empower youth through therapeutic tools and group support, this module helps participants identify emotional triggers, build healthy coping mechanisms, and respond to stress with confidence. Sessions may include journaling by the shore, peer sharing, and movement-based de-stressing techniques that support both mental and emotional resilience.
